Home Office

Home offices are a popular selling feature

With more and more people working from a home, a home office has become a major selling feature for any house.

A home office does not have to be a large room, but it should be highly organized. For selling purposes, it doesn't need to even be functional, that is, it doesn't need to have the computer set up, you don't need to have papers scattered about. In fact, the desk should be clear of papers, pencils, pens, calculators... just about everything someone might normally use while working in an office.

The staged home office is really just to imply that this room can be used as an office. The desk should have an attractive lamp, an ink blotter and perhaps a book, just to prove that you're studious. The home office is also a good place to have plants. The green color of the plants helps set off the warm wood tones of the desk and shelves.

If the room is a working office, be careful about leaving laptop computers and other items that could be easily removed by thieves posing as home buyers. This is especially true for open house days or for owners selling it themselves. Real estate agents are usually a little more selective in who they open doors for. Just avoid putting temptation on display.
