Painting creates a new palette
Besides cleaning, painting is one of the least expensive, major fix-up jobs you can do to improve the appearance of your house. If your walls haven’t been painted in the last 2 years, your house will benefit from a new paint job.

A new faucet is better than trying to fix an old one
Kitchens and bathrooms are 2 very important rooms when it comes to selling your house. Even if the budget won't allow you to update these rooms completely, sometimes a new faucet may be just the trick to give that tired kitchen or bath a bit of a lift..

Colors on opposite side of the Color Wheel are referred to as complementary colors. Colors on either side of a selected color are referred to as analogous.

2008 Color Trends

New colors for 2008 are more muted
Color can be one of the biggest selling points for your home. Keeping up with recognized color trends is a good idea to keep your house from looking dated. Remember avocado appliances and orange shag rugs? Those were all the rage a few decades ago, but having a dated color palette like that could cost you thousands in selling your house.
For 2008, muted and natural colors are the basic must have colors. Out are the highly saturated colors popular over the last few years. Each room in your house should have its own color scheme to be the most appealing.
Dining rooms
Here is where buyers will want to imagine themselves entertaining their family and friends. Warm and energetic colors will work best in this room with limited use of a bright accent color to add some zest.
Bedrooms
This is personal space, and difficult to define as each person has unique tastes when it comes to color. Best to stick with neutrals in the medium to dark brown color palette. Tastefully accent with green to create a relaxing atmosphere where it will be easy to imagine relaxing.
Living rooms
Here you can add a little something unexpected such as an accent wall painted in a complementary color to the rest of the room. On a color wheel, complementary colors are on the opposite side of the main color you're using for the rest of the room. Again, stay in the neutral to warm shades for the main room color, then select one wall as your accent wall. This wall will become your focal point in the room. If the room has an architectural feature (i.e. fireplace or picture window) this would be the most natural focal point in the room. Use your accent color that will enhance that single feature. If your room has multiple focal points, decide which one is the most important, accent it, and play down the other. A room, particularly a living room, should only have one focal point.
Kitchens
Kitchens should have a comfortable feel, that is warm. Avoid the cooler paint tones, especially if you have stainless steel appliances. Even gray paint can be selected in a warmer shade. Lighter colors will help expand the openness of the kitchen to make it feel even larger.
