Home > Setting the Mood with Bedroom Staging
Master bedroom will help sell the houseThe master bedroom is one of the critical rooms for staging. Remember, people are not coming into your house to see how you live, but to see how this house might let them live. Therefore you want to put away all the personal photos, empty closets of all but the most necessary clothing items that you'll need for the next 2 weeks. Closet shelves should be almost empty of any items. Items that are on the shelf, should be folded and stacked neatly. A visitor should be able to see at least 50% of the shelf without any items. If the closet has a pull chain for the overhead light, replace the chain with an attractive chain pull and fob. If your overhead light is one of the older style lights that has a bare-bulb, replace the regular bulb with a globe light-bulb. This will give you a much more attractive looking closet for almost no money. Closets should not only look good and but they should smell good too, not musty or mildewy. Rack or drawer your shoes and other accessories. Leave nothing on the floor. Add cedar blocks for scent and invest in matching wood hangars for every item of clothing to project a lifestyle of success. This presents a powerful impression for the eye, instead of the hodgepodge of hangers we normally have hanging in our closets. Dust under and around the bed. Clear all the tables and chests of everything except for a very few necessary items such as your alarm clock.
Remove the television from the bedroom! Make the bed everyday. Use plenty of coordinated pillows on the bed. Pillows should be fluffy and not flattened with plenty of use. The bedcover should be a solid color. If your bed doesn't have a bed skirt, add one that compliments the cover. The skirt should go all the way to the floor. It helps give the bed a feeling of luxury. The primary goal of the master bedroom is to look open, airy and romantic. To accomplish this you may need to remove some furniture. If the room is small, remove the side tables, and any chests. Too much furniture in a small room makes it feel crowded and stuffy.
Things to avoid in a master bedroom are collections of anything, no matter how dear they are to you, these items should be packed up and stored. |
Additional staging infoBasic Color Theory in the BedroomIf you want to set a romantic mood in your bedroom, use colors that are close together on the color wheel for almost everything in the room. This is called an analogous color scheme-- that is, all of the colors are related to each other directly. (sample at left) For a more exotic, almost adventurous bedroom, use contrasting colors, then complement these colors with splashes of primary colors that create a point of high interest.
